1989/90 was a time of social upheaval. On December 13 and 20, 1989, Runde Tische (Round Tables) met in the Lichtenberg and Hohenschönhausen districts of Berlin. Moderated by representatives of the church, the old and new powers negotiated political development in the two districts until the first free elections could be held.
These first steps toward democratic restructuring were remembered in this conversation with activists from the civil rights movement and the Round Tables; this event was part of “Der Berg der Erinnerung,” a series of conversations held at the Museum Lichtenberg featuring eyewitnesses to the events of 1989/90.
School children were given the opportunity to ask questions and exchange opinions and ideas.
