Out of the Window
16mm color 5’15 min 2004

Camera, sound and directed by Johannes Kochs

The concept of the film is the everyday view from the windows of an apartment at different times of day and during different seasons. Nothing out of the ordinary happens; it is a view of an environs. As we think we know the familiar things in our immediate surroundings well, the film shows a facet of an everyday setting from a residential environment that keeps eluding our more precise perception.

The film is an attempt to perceive anew surroundings that are familiar to us. The last two shots are shot in reverse angle to the first two opening sequences that show the building from which later all the other shots are filmed. The last two shots bring the film to its conclusion with the twilight of the day drawing to a close.
